The said land and building shall be held upon trust for the purpose of a Village Hall as aforesaid.
The Charity has four key sources of funding.
Landlord – Business Leases
The Village Hall often surprises first time visitors due to its size, many unaware that it is three storeys. On the ground floor there are three business that lease accommodation, Leap Ahead Day Nursery, Mapplewell & Staincross Village Hall Cafe and Sandwich Bar and the Library which also host the Computer suite. Go down one level and there is possibly one of the UK’s longest surviving, privately run Rifle Range and we also have a studio workshop. Go up to the first floor and we have a further five self contained offices for hire.
Short Term Hire
We have two large halls and two business rooms that are hired by the hour for outside activity providers to hold classes or for personal use. We are one of the few halls in South Yorkshire that has a room tall enough to house even the most elaborate bouncy castle features and we are regularly used for Private Parties for all age groups. We are licensed for the selling of alcohol and we are possibly the only Village hall approved by Barnsley MBC as a venue for carrying out weddings and other Civil Ceremonies. Room hire starts from as little as £10:00 per hour and we can offer the full wedding packages for less than £1,500
In House Functions
Our objective is to provide more diverse activities for the community, some of which are ‘lost leaders’ and provide only a small amount of funding. We have to balance this, however, with larger events that go toward to the upkeep of the hall. We already have our own clubs such as the Social Luncheon Club and Toddler Groups, but the longer term plan is to bring drama to the hall in the form of Stage Productions, plays and pantomimes. We are also looking at fund raising activities, such as kids discos, our own Friday afternoon social club, dances, horse racing nights and even soul nights. We are even considering hosting our own ‘small business’ club off the back of this website. As such, we are interested in anyone with a good idea that they think would enhance the lives of the residents of Mapplewell and Staincross.
When we were approached by the Covid Testing team to see if they could use the car park as a walk-in test centre, we agreed without a second thought (and for no fee) as it was something we knew was a major benefit to the community, where other areas were complaining of having a 150 mile round trip.
